Job summary

The Anchorage School District seeks a Behavior Support Paraprofessional Educator to provide academic and behavioral support for students with emotional disturbance or behavioral challenges. The role is tied to a retirement system with PERS, and it involves working with a school team to implement IEP goals.

Position includes full-time status (0.875 FTE) at WHALEY SCHOOL with a base hourly rate of $20.94 to $21.83, plus up to $2 extra per hour for hours beyond base, as applicable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or current enrollment in GED program.
• Must meet paraprofessional requirements for Alaska through 48 college credits OR a passing ETS Paraprofessional Assessment score OR WorkKeys OR ASD training.
• Basic literacy skills in reading, writing, and math.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation of staff, parents, students, and the public.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, parents, students, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Provides instructional services in reading, math, writing to students individually or in small groups under supervision of a special education teacher.
• Prepares or modifies instructional materials for students as specified by the teacher.
• Collects academic and behavioral data per IEP goals and objectives.
• Collaborates with colleagues, staff, and community agency personnel.
• Follows written and oral instructions and implements teacher-directed academic and behavioral programming.
• Implements and provides special education services, accommodations and behavioral interventions per IEP.
• For neighborhood schools, work primarily in classroom environments with possible duties in other settings.
• For special schools, work in classrooms and other school settings including buses.
• Supports district diversity, confidentiality standards.
