Job summary

Comstock Elementary School is seeking a Behavior Safety Liaison to support student behavior and safety. The role involves working with teachers, administrators, and families to implement individualized behavior plans and ensure a calm and supportive environment.

The position requires a high school diploma with college credits or relevant experience, strong communication skills, and certification in UKeru or the ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized behavior support plans with teachers and administrators.
  • Help students build self-regulation skills and understand behavioral expectations.
  • Monitor student behavior in non-classroom settings and intervene as needed.
  • Respond to incidents calmly using de-escalation strategies.
  • Determine when to intervene directly vs. refer to administration.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and support staff to review behavior data.
  • Communicate with students, families, and staff during high-stress situations.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Coordinate with community and district agencies to support behavior-change strategies.

POSITION

Behavior Safety Liaison
Comstock Elementary School
37.5 hours/week
SALARY: $18.59 (Contracted through Edustaff, a 3rd Party)
AVAILABLE: Immediately
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma and one of the following:

  • Two (2) years of study at an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • At least 60 semester hours of college credit; or
  • Three to five (3–5) years of relevant experience in a similar role
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive student information.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively during crisis or high-stress situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing tasks under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of district and community resources available to support students and families.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, de-escalation strategies, and behavior management frameworks.
  • Sound judgment in distinguishing between situations requiring direct intervention versus administrative referral.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive, cooperative relationships across a diverse school community.
  • UKeru certification required (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal history background check and EduStaff onboarding requirements.
  • Prior experience working with elementary-age students in a school or youth-serving setting. (Preferred)
  • Training in de-escalation techniques, restraint/behavior management systems (e.g., CPI, Ukeru, PBIS), or trauma-informed care. (Preferred)
RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Behavior Support

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and modeling individualized behavior support plans in collaboration with teachers, the Behavior Interventionist, and building administration.
  • Work proactively and directly with students to build self-regulation skills and an understanding of behavioral expectations and consequences.
  • Observe and monitor student behavior in non-classroom settings (hallways, cafeteria, recess, transitions, bus loading/unloading) and intervene as appropriate.
  • Respond to behavioral incidents and crisis situations in a calm, professional manner using UKeru and de-escalation strategies.
  • Determine appropriately when to intervene directly versus when to refer a situation to administration or other support staff.
  • Serve as an active team member with teachers, behavior interventionists, counselors, and other support personnel to review behavior data and coordinate positive student contacts.
  • Communicate effectively and calmly with students, families, and staff during high-stress or crisis situations.
  • Build and maintain cooperative, trust-based relationships with students, co-workers, parents/guardians, and community members.
  • Coordinate with related community and district agencies to develop and support behavior-change strategies for students.
Documentation & Confidentiality
  • Maintain accurate, timely records and charts that document student behavioral contacts, incidents, and progress toward behavior objectives, using district tracking tools.
  • Handle all student information with strict confidentiality, in accordance with FERPA and district policy.

  • Champion and actively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions and practices.
  • Model professionalism, patience, and consistency in all interactions with students and staff.
  • Perform other essential job functions and duties as assigned by administration.
