Overview

The Teacher, Exceptional Student Education (ESE), is responsible for the instruction of all areas of Exceptional Student Education in a classroom setting.

DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS: All district employees must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance, support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, engage in civility, respect, and professionalism, and maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement appropriate Specially Designed Instruction, accommodations, and supports assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
• Develop and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEP) including present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
• Create a positive educational climate for students with disabilities to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
• Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
• Observe and evaluate student performance and mastery of standards, monitor assessment data, and maintain student grades and attendance.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom using effective classroom management strategies, implement positive behavior supports and evidence-based interventions, and invoke appropriate disciplinary procedures.
• Communicate with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourage parental involvement.
• Takes responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Provide oversight to paraprofessionals.
• Maintain and secure confidential records, inquiries, data and full-time equivalency (FTE) documentation.
• Attend workshops and trainings to build knowledge and skills in Exceptional Student Education.
• Maintain appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
• Perform any other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and tasks outlined are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the district.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

• Florida Professional Educator Certificate in Exceptional Student Education preferred. Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required.

• Mathematical Skills: Works with math concepts such as probability and statistics, geometry, and trigonometry; applies fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and interprets instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Computer Skills: Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands

• Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.
• Lifting up to 10 pounds.
• Reaching with both hands; overhead activities.
• Environmental Conditions: Noise level is moderate.
