Job summary

NOCO Humane in Evans, CO seeks a Behavior Manager to lead the Behavior and Foster/Transfer departments, train staff/volunteers, and implement behavior and transfer programs across multiple campuses. The role supervises staff directly and volunteers, with a schedule spanning evenings and weekends as needed.

The position requires a Bachelor's in a related field or equivalent experience, IAABC/CPDT-like certification, and 2+ years of hands-on animal behavior work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology, animal behavior, animal husbandry, veterinary field, or applicable field of study or equivalent professional experience.
• Animal Behavior Association certification (CTC, CPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, ACAAB) required. IAABC shelter affiliate status desired.
• Minimum two years hands-on companion animal training or behavior assessment experience.
• Proven experience with positive reinforcement training techniques.
• Two years direct staff supervision or four years volunteer supervision experience.
• Experience hiring, training, staffing, scheduling, and evaluating staff or volunteers.
• Two years working with the general public in a customer-facing role.
• Animal shelter experience highly desired.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish reading/writing/speaking is a plus with wage premium.

Responsibilities

• Hire, manage, and supervise staff and volunteers in Behavior and Foster/Transfer departments with training and growth.
• Oversee staffing needs, scheduling, payroll approval, performance reviews, and recognition.
• Ensure professional conduct, attendance, and punctuality standards are met.
• Serve as Department Volunteer Supervisor (DVS) and participate in related meetings.
• Provide coverage for reports and function within scope as needed.
• Develop and implement SOPs for Behavior/Enrichment and Foster/Transfer aligned with regulations.
• Monitor regulatory compliance and operational consistency across protocols.
• Oversee census management and inventory of shelter supplies and medical items.
• Lead daily behavior assessments and enrichment; determine outcomes.
• Lead shelter behavior rounds and respond to inquiries from staff and community.
• Provide euthanasia services, act as euthanasia trainer, and approve lists.
• Develop and execute department budgets, annual goals, and long-term plans.
• Provide monthly reporting and oversee data collection across departments.
• Deliver community support programming and educational programs.
