Job summary

West Bay Collaborative in Rhode Island is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students with challenging behaviors under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Special Education and the Site Administrator. You will implement procedures, collect data on student progress, and report outcomes to staff.

The role includes direct work with at-risk students, assisting with safety incidents, and helping students meet academic goals.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Teaching Assistant preferred; on-site training available.
• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred; associate degree considered.
• Experience with students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
• Knowledge of health, safety and emergency procedures in a school environment.
• Possession or ability to obtain a Chauffeur’s license.
• Crisis Intervention/Mediation training preferred, or ability to complete on hire.
• Maturity, self-confidence, and reliability to serve as a role model.
• Criminal background clear.

Responsibilities

• Develop structures and procedures to enable students with challenging behaviors to succeed in school and community.
• Implement, modify, and report on procedures for identified students.
• Collect data to monitor efficacy of individual behavioral programs.
• Communicate observations and student outcomes to staff and administration.
• Work directly with students at-risk to help develop appropriate behaviors and conflict resolution skills.
• Provide support to staff and students in safety-related incidents, including, when necessary, use of physical intervention.
• Support students in completing classroom work and achieving academic goals.
• Other duties as assigned by Site Administrator or Director of Special Education.
