Job summary

Greater Somerset County YMCA in Franklin Township, NJ seeks Before Care Counselors for 7:00–9:00am shifts. This on-site role supports elementary children with Homework Time, enrichment activities, and safe supervision as part of our Before School program.

You will greet children and families, assist with activities, and maintain a clean, organized space. Must be at least 16, with a HS diploma or senior in HS, and ability to work early mornings with reliability.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• High School Diploma or Senior in High School.
• Experience working with children in a structured group setting.
• Ability to learn and think quickly to solve child-to-child situations.
• Good communication skills and ability to relate to diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a varied program of activities including Homework Time, Enrichment Activities, Organized Physical Activities, Free Play and Snack Time.
• Assist Site Supervisor with supervision of all children on the site.
• Build relationships with children and families and greet them positively each day.
• Maintain discipline under the Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
• Motivate and encourage children to participate in activities.
• Provide a safe environment and follow safety procedures in emergencies.
• Help develop an attractive, organized, clean and stimulating space.
• Set up the space before children arrive and clean up after departure.
• Keep Site Supervisor apprised of behavior-related situations.

Franklin Twp YMCA is currently seeking Counselors for our Before care school programs in Franklin. We are looking for cause-driven leaders that share our commitment to nurture and support our children, promote youth development, and foster a sense of social responsibility. This job is fully on-site, not remote.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

• Assists with implementation of a varied and challenging program of activities for children which includes Homework Time, Enrichment Activities, Organized Physical Activities, Free Play, and Snack Time.
• Assists Site Supervisor with supervision of all children on the site
• Build relationships with children and families - Greet them in a positive manner every day.
• Maintains discipline with children during all activities under the guidance of the GSC YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
• Assists the Site Supervisor with motivating and encouraging all children to participate in program activities.
• Provides a safe environment for children and follow all required safety procedures in case of emergency.
• Assists the Site Supervisor in developing an attractive, organized, clean, and stimulating space:
  • Cleaning and disinfect of all equipment as per state requirements (daily or weekly).
  • Maintain site/room, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Set up the site/room in advance of children's arrival and cleans up after children's departure.
• Keeps Site Supervisor apprised of situations requiring their attention as it relates to children's behavior.

Requirements:

Before Care staff is needed at our SACC sites. Must be able to work at 7am and be on time.

Monday-Friday (Before Care)

• Conerly rd School: 7am-9am
• Franklin Park Elementary: 7am-9am
• Hillcrest Elementary: 7am-9am
• Claremont Elementary: 7am-9:30am
• MacAfee rd School: 7am-9:30am
• Elizabeth ave Elementary: 7am-9:30am

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must have High School Diploma or be a Senior in High School

• Good communication skills and ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
