Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • 1 year of teaching experience and/or 1 year of childcare/school setting experience preferred.
  • Must pass criminal background check and TB test.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to scholars Preschool–8th grade.
  • Apply developmentally appropriate behavior management strategies and maintain a safe environment.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.
  • Attend occasional events with extra pay for additional hours.
  • Be a positive role model for scholars and staff.
  • Communicate with scholars' teachers and parents about strengths and growth areas.
  • Demonstrate strong organization and ability to meet deadlines.

DC Scholars Public Charter School was founded in 2012 and serves approximately 500 students in Preschool - 8th grade. DC Scholars develops life‑long scholars who have the academic knowledge and skills, individual passions, and community‑mindedness necessary to succeed in and contribute to an ever‑changing world. We have cultivated a mission‑oriented and collaborative team. Our staff is enthusiastic about constantly setting and reaching a high bar for students.

The Position

DC Scholars Before/After School Program is looking for part‑time Before Care/After Care Teachers. We seek quality leaders who are dedicated and committed to enriching our youth.

Part‑Time Hours
  • Monday - Friday 6:15 AM - 8:00 AM
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 3:00 PM - 5:45 PM
  • Friday - 12:00 PM - 5:45 PM
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to scholars in Grade Levels Preschool to 8th grade
  • Use developmentally appropriate strategies for behavior management and ensure and maintain a safe environment
  • Supervise students in assigned classrooms, hallways, and other common areas to ensure /safety, proper conduct, and individual attention
  • Attendance at occasional special events (Joyful Market, Parent Nights, events after school), where additional hours worked will be paid at an hourly rate.
  • Act as a positive role model to scholars and fellow team members at DC Scholars Public Charter School
  • Maintain open and frequent communication with the scholar's teacher and parents on the scholar’s academic, behavioral, and socio‑emotional strengths and areas of growth
  • Strong organization and able to meet deadlines consistently
  • Conveys information effectively and efficiently using verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication skills. All written materials are accurate, clear, and grammatically correct.
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team
  • Reliable, on time for duties for after care shifts and meeting
  • Adaptability & flexibility.
  • Willingness to work outdoors with youth
  • Tracks student attendance daily
  • Completes and submits incident reports as needed
Background, Experience, and Desired Skills
  • High School diploma
  • 1 year of teaching experience and/or 1 year of experience working in a childcare/school setting (preferred)
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and get a TB test
  • Ability to identify, resolve and communicate problems and solutions in a timely and respectful manner
  • Ability to exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views, give and welcome feedback
  • Ability to follow instructions and respond to supervisor direction and take responsibility for your own actions
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently
  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information

Compensation

The hourly rate for this role is $21.00 in alignment with the DC Scholars compensation philosophy. Rates for this role will be determined based on a combination of the new hire's relevant experience and market demands.
