Job summary

Battle Creek Public Schools is seeking a Bearcat Coach at Springfield Middle School to promote good attendance, safe campus environment, and student advocacy. The role supports prevention/intervention strategies and partners with staff to monitor progress and document referrals.

Responsibilities include identifying truant students, developing interventions, and collaborating with families to improve attendance and graduation rates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2-3 years of highly successful related experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively through above-average speaking, spelling, and writing skills.
• Knowledgeable of procedures and protocol for local and state law enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Identify students who are excessively truant and reduce campus loitering.
• Collaborate with school staff to develop interventions for truant students and create individualized service plans.
• Initiate and maintain a helping relationship to improve graduation rates and attendance.
• Assess attendance problems and assist in fostering positive family attitudes toward academics and attendance.
• Provide families with information about their child’s needs and communicate the importance of school attendance.
• Assist with implementing truancy prevention programs and recommend strategies to support regular attendance.
• Serve as a resource to administrators, guidance counselors, and teachers.
• Maintain safety and order in hallways with high-profile lunchroom presence.
• Conduct safety and security assessments of the BCPS campus and surrounding area.
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
