Job summary

City of Boston is seeking staff to assist with welcoming and checking in children and youth, engaging them in age-appropriate activities, and supporting transitions between programs.

You will help with setup, supervision, and cleanup for recreational and arts activities, maintain a safe teen center, and serve as a positive role model for diverse youth and families.

Job description

Overview

1. Assist staff with welcoming and checking in children and youth, engaging youth in age-appropriate activities, both one-to-one and in small groups, transitioning between activities and recreational programs. Activities may include homework assistance, arts and crafts, STEM activities, games, community events, civic engagement, photography/video, and more.
2. Assist with program setup, supervision, participant engagement, and cleanup/breakdown for recreational, arts, and enrichment activities and community events. Organize, distribute, collect, and properly store program, games, and arts supplies. Help maintain a safe, clear, organized teen center and programming space.
3. Serve as a positive role model by providing welcoming, inclusive, and respectful assistance to youth participants and families.
4. Some youth staff at some BCYF sites may participate in some but not all the activities listed here; some may be assigned to multiple roles throughout the year, including facilities/front desk and recreation assistant.
5. Participate in civic engagement and city beautification activities efforts of the Boston City Youth Corps

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for crowd counting and directing the crowd.
• Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility, including sweeping, mopping, and trash removal from both the building and outdoor areas (front lawn, parking lot, etc.).
• Help with copying and distributing materials, water, etc.
• Assist with game setup, breakdown, and scorekeeping.
