Job summary

MatPel Builders is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead our company-wide safety program and support safe, compliant operations across our active jobsites in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This hands-on role partners with superintendents, project teams, and subcontractors to identify hazards, provide training, investigate incidents, and ensure safety expectations are consistently followed. Domestic travel 10–20% is expected.

Qualifications

• At least five years of construction safety experience, preferably with a general contractor.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA construction safety regulations.
• Experience conducting jobsite inspections, incident investigations, and safety training.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.
• First Aid/CPR certification required or must be obtained after hire.
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or related field preferred.
• Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel domestically 10–20%.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and administer the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and related safety policies.
• Monitor compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and company safety requirements.
• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, document findings, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Lead new-hire and subcontractor safety orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training.
• Investigate injuries, incidents, near misses, and safety concerns; identify root causes and ensure corrective actions.
• Coordinate incident reporting and follow-up with HR, leadership, insurance, and safety partners.
• Serve as primary contact during Cal/OSHA inspections and coordinate responses to citations.
• Maintain OSHA logs, inspection reports, training records, and incident documentation.
