Job summary

Lyten, Inc. in San Jose, CA is seeking a Materials Process Engineer to develop chemical processes for battery active materials and to scale production. You will collaborate with engineers and technicians to operate production-scale tools and drive process improvements.

Candidates have a Bachelor's in a relevant field and 3+ years of experience (or a Master's with 1+ year). Experience with powder mixing, slurry, coating processes, and electrochemical testing is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or chemical engineering with 3+ years of experience, or a Master’s with 1+ year.
• Hands-on experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting industrial production equipment.
• Familiarity with powder mixing, slurry, or coating processes.
• Familiarity with electrochemical testing techniques to screen new materials.

Responsibilities

• Develop chemical processes for battery active materials to meet application, product, and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to operate production-scale tools.
• Champion process improvements and partner with external vendors on custom equipment when off-the-shelf solutions don’t exist.
• Analyze material characterization data and apply Statistical Process Control to troubleshoot out-of-spec lots.
• Build coin cells to quantify electrochemical performance of R&D materials.
• Own preventive maintenance planning, spare parts strategy, and equipment health monitoring.
