Job description

Empowering a Sustainable Future

Factorial develops breakthrough solid-state battery technology to enable safe, scalable, and high-performance cells for electric vehicles. Our portfolio includes the segment-leading FEST (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology), scaled in 100+Ah cells, functioning at room temperature, and compatible with existing lithium-ion battery manufacturing equipment. With strong OEM backing, including joint development agreements with Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Hyundai Motor Company, a world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals, and cutting-edge R&D facilities, Factorial is pushing the boundaries of battery technology.

The Opportunity:

Factorial is seeking a Senior/Staff/Principal Battery Engineer responsible for EV large cell development with new lithium-ion battery technology. The successful candidate will focus on cell engineering and development for next-generation cells in Woburn, Massachusetts. Candidates should have extensive experience in lithium-ion cell product and process development for EV batteries, specifically at the large cell level (not material development, not module/system engineering, not ESS). The role involves technical support for operations and R&D teams, with cell-level analysis, pilot-scale sample process development, and collaboration on market research. Excellent communication skills are essential to liaise effectively across departments. The position reports to the Sr. Director, Cell Engineering division.

In this role, you will:

  1. Be a key member for next-generation lithium-ion battery and pouch cell product development.
  2. Design, validate, and analyze lithium-ion batteries for high energy density applications.
  3. Develop fabrication processes for large-sized next-gen cells to optimize quality.
  4. Provide engineering support to resolve quality issues in projects.
  5. Engage in direct collaboration with customers and suppliers regarding product, process, and performance.

We are looking for candidates with:

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree or higher in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
  2. 5+ years of industrial experience in lithium-ion battery cell development for EV applications, preferably with major battery or OEM companies.
  3. Proven success in lithium-ion battery cell development projects for EVs.
  4. Proficiency in lithium-ion battery cell processes at pilot scale and sample fabrication.
  5. Experience maintaining effective technical relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal teams.
  6. Willingness to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Ability to work effectively within project teams and with customers, demonstrating dedication and technical excellence.

Our competitive benefits include:

  1. Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  2. Generous paid time off.
  3. 401(k) plan with employer matching.
  4. Education assistance plan.
  5. Short-term and long-term coverage.
