Job description

Empowering a Sustainable Future

Factorial develops breakthrough solid-state battery technology to enable safe, scalable, and high-performance cells for electric vehicles. Our portfolio of solid-state innovations includes the segment-leading FEST (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology), which has been scaled in 100+Ah cells, works at room temperature, and is compatible with existing lithium-ion battery manufacturing equipment. With strong OEM backing, including joint development agreements with Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Hyundai Motor Company, a world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals, and cutting-edge R&D facilities, Factorial is pushing the boundaries of battery technology.

The Opportunity:

Factorial is looking for a Senior/Staff/Principal Battery Engineer who will be responsible for EV large cell development with new lithium-ion battery technology for next generation cell technology. The successful candidate will take a cell engineering and development role to join its team in Woburn, Massachusetts. This role requires extensive experience in lithium-ion cell product and process development engineering at a large cell level for EV battery applications (not material development, not module/system engineer, not ESS). The candidate should be focused on EV battery cell design and development. This role includes technical support for operation and R&D teams, with technical cell level analysis. The candidate will also possess pilot scale sample process development to collaborate with R&D projects. In addition, this role will be closely involved in market research and must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate exchanges between various departments within the company in product design. This position will report to the Sr. Director, Cell Engineering division.

In this role, you will:

  • Be a key member for next generation lithium-ion battery and pouch cell level product.
  • Design, validate, and analyze lithium-ion battery products for their application in high energy density lithium batteries.
  • Be a key member for large size next Gen cell fabrication process development to optimize product quality.
  • Provide engineering support to project teams to resolve quality issues.
  • Collaborate and communicate directly with customers for cell development in terms of product, process, and production. Discuss with suppliers for each technical information and performance.

We are looking for people with:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of industrial experience in lithium-ion battery cell development for EV applications (major battery or OEM company).
  • A proven track record of success in lithium-ion battery cell development projects for EV applications.
  • Proficiency in the lithium-ion battery cell process for pilot scale and sample fabrication.
  • Experience maintaining effective technical relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal (and external) departments.
  • A willingness to execute on multiple tasks in a fast-paced start-up environment.
  • The ability to work within project teams and with customers with dedication and technical excellence.

Some of our competitive benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • 401(k) plan that includes employer matching funds.
  • Education assistance plan.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
