Job summary

Google Mountain View is seeking a senior battery engineer to help drive the development of custom silicon-powered hardware and high-density Li-ion cells. You will lead NPI testing across supplier sites and labs, shaping cell chemistry, packaging and manufacturability to deliver high-performance hardware.

You will collaborate with internal engineering, operations, and external vendors while leveraging DOE/ statistical analysis and EIS tools to optimize cell parameters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in a battery engineering technical environment, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with statistical analysis tools (e.g., Tableau, Minitab) for DOE, SPC, and process capability assessments.
  • 2 years of experience with battery cyclers (e.g., Arbin, Maccor), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and related analytical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Drive New Product Introduction build execution, oversee cell and pack-level testing at supplier sites and regional labs, and track KPIs for core engineering and battery leadership teams.
  • Evaluate and qualify next-generation cell chemistries, advanced cell packaging architectures, and novel manufacturing technologies.
  • Act as the primary battery technical lead partnering with internal engineering, operations, and external cell vendors to resolve complex multi-disciplinary issues.
  • Interface with research laboratories and innovative industry partners to explore emerging battery technologies and support technical regulatory inquiries.
  • Architect Li-ion cell designs by translating MCOs into ERS, leading DFM reviews, and executing DOE to optimize cell parameters and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience developing small form-factor cells for wearable devices, as well as high energy-density cells and high-power applications.
  • Deep expertise in advanced cell failure analysis, including electrochemical and analytical characterization at both the cell and material level.
  • Familiarity with consumer electronics New Product Introduction (NPI) workflows, international battery safety standards, and global regulatory/agency requirements.
