Job summary

Google is seeking a Battery Engineer to join the Platforms and Devices team in Mountain View. You will contribute to developing custom silicon solutions powering consumer devices, delivering high performance, efficiency, and seamless hardware integration.

Responsibilities include driving NPI build execution, evaluating next‑gen cell chemistries, and leading collaboration with internal engineering and external vendors to resolve multi-disciplinary issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience working in a battery engineering technical environment, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
• 2 years of experience with statistical analysis tools (e.g., Tableau, Minitab) for DOE, SPC, and process capability assessments.
• 2 years of experience with battery cyclers (e.g., Arbin, Maccor), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and related analytical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) build execution, oversee cell and pack-level testing at supplier sites and regional labs, and track testing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for core engineering and battery leadership teams.
• Evaluate and qualify next-generation cell chemistries, advanced cell packaging architectures, and novel manufacturing technologies.
• Act as the primary battery technical lead partnering with internal engineering, operations, and external cell vendors to proactively resolve complex multi-disciplinary issues.
• Interface with research laboratories and innovative industry partners to explore emerging battery technologies and support technical regulatory inquiries.
• Architect Li-ion cell designs by translating Mechanical Control Outlines (MCO) into comprehensive Engineering Requirements Specifications (ERS), leading Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews, and executing Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize cell parameters and critical manufacturing processes.

Minimum qualifications

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience developing small form-factor cells for wearable devices, as well as high energy-density cells and high-power applications.
• Deep expertise in advanced cell failure analysis, including electrochemical and analytical characterization at both the cell and material level.
• Familiarity with consumer electronics New Product Introduction (NPI) workflows, international battery safety standards, and global regulatory/agency requirements.
