Job summary

Thomas Concrete Group in Columbia, SC is seeking a reliable Plant Operator to batch concrete and support production with quality control and environmental compliance.

You will work independently in a fast-paced plant, operate batching operations, manage materials inventories, perform inspections, and assist in yard duties. The role requires flexibility, weekend work, and ability to work at more than one location.

Qualifications

• Two years related experience and/or training.
• Knowledge of the programming functions of all current plant systems.
• An understanding of all aspects of concrete production and the types of products produced.
• An understanding of QC/QA for the ready-mix concrete industry.
• Must possess a DOT batch card or the ability to obtain one.
• Knowledge of production equipment, production processes, and maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the highest standard of quality and safety in all areas of production from manufacturing to shipment.
• Performs the concrete batching operation.
• Assists the plant manager in maintaining proper stock inventories (raw materials, machinery/vehicle parts, etc.).
• Assists in performing required plant environmental inspections and documenting properly.
• Performs air checks and moisture checks.
• Assists in maintaining a clean working area.
• Must be able to open, close, and work Saturdays alone.
• Must be able to run front end loader and pump tankers when needed.
• Required to work a schedule that varies from week to week, long hours during peak season, and weekends.
• May be required to work at more than one location.

SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of this position is to batch concrete to meet production demands, ensure quality control and environmental compliance, and assist on the plant yard when needed.
