Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking an assistant coach for the athletic program, with an expected start date of 9/14/2026. The position pays $17.13 per hour and is not benefits eligible.

You will assist the head coach in supervising student athletes, preparing them for contests, overseeing practice sessions, managing equipment and safety, and maintaining records per district and WIAA policies.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent with coaching experience.
• Must understand Tacoma School District and WIAA policies and guidelines.
• First Aid/CPR/AED training required; Lifeguard certification if coaching swimming.
• Knowledge of sport-specific fundamentals and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervises student athletes to promote learning through participation.
• Assists head coach in preparing athletes for contests; administers discipline fairly.
• Oversees practice sessions to develop athletes’ potential; teaches fundamental skills.
• Follows district procedures for injury handling.
• Oversees equipment issuance, maintenance, and inventory; ensures return of all equipment.
