About the Role
An established building automation and controls contractor is seeking an experienced Hardware BAS Engineer to support the design, engineering, and delivery of Building Automation System (BAS) projects.
This is a hybrid position combining work from the office, project sites, and home as project requirements dictate. The Engineer will work closely with Sales, Software Engineering, Field Operations, Mechanical and Electrical Contractors, Equipment Representatives, and customers to successfully move projects from initial design through completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Sales department with writing project specifications and defining project scope of work.
- Perform site surveys to gather project-specific information for retrofit design and engineering.
- Create in-house control drawings based on project plans, specifications, and design requirements.
- Select control instrumentation in accordance with project plans and specifications.
- Size control valves, damper actuators, water flow meters, and other HVAC control devices.
- Design small- to large-scale BAS networks in accordance with BACnet standards.
- Work collaboratively with Software Engineering, Field Operations, and other internal departments to drive projects through completion.
- Coordinate with Mechanical and Electrical Contractors and equipment representatives during the design phase.
- Assist with developing, maintaining, and improving company engineering standards.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and engineering assignments to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Provide onsite technical support when requested.
- Assist with troubleshooting controls, hardware, networking, and system-related issues and develop effective solutions.
- Prepare as-built drawings and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) documentation upon project completion.
- Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Work independently while maintaining close coordination with internal teams and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in an associated engineering discipline or 4+ years of successful hardware engineering experience specifically within the HVAC controls industry and/or commercial construction.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in the Building Automation System (BAS) industry.
- Ability to communicate technical material effectively to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical blueprints.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Visio, as well as other Windows-based software as required.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Automation, or an associated engineering discipline.
- Experience with Reliable Controls.
- Field experience including:
- Point-to-point checkout
- System startup
- Troubleshooting
- BAS system integration
- Previous experience as a Software Engineer or Controls Programmer within the Building Automation System industry.
- Experience with BACnet networks and BAS communications.
- Experience with HVAC controls design, retrofit projects, and commercial building systems.
