Job summary

Columbia Hospitality is hiring a Bartender/Server for the Smith Tower observatory and bar in Seattle. This hybrid role blends bartending with attentive service, crafting curated cocktails while engaging guests in an iconic historic setting.

You’ll balance beverage preparation, guest interactions, and event support, ensuring consistent quality and safety. This position emphasizes hospitality excellence, teamwork, and a passion for memorable experiences at a premier location.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a high-volume hospitality environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Take orders accurately as a hybrid bartender/server and accommodate dietary requests.
  • Prepare alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages following recipes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of offerings and menu changes.
  • Present cocktails and other drinks with attractive, consistent presentation.
  • Keep bar area clean, organized and glassware washed as needed.
  • Assist in dining area upkeep and bussing as required.
  • Deliver warm, attentive service to every guest throughout their visit.
  • Know menu items well and confidently make recommendations.
  • Participate in banquets/catering events as directed by management.
  • Adhere to food safety and Washington State liquor laws.
  • Address guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Bartender/Server

Step into the historic landmark of the Smith Tower Observatory & Bar, where each cocktail is a carefully crafted masterpiece, and every detail tells a story. In this hybrid role as a Bartender/Server in our iconic establishment, you'll channel the spirit of the prohibition era, delighting guests with curated libations and personalized experiences. From meticulously measured ingredients to engaging conversations, you'll ensure that every visit to our bar is a journey into the heart of vintage charm and unforgettable fun.

What’s you’ll do:
THE BRASS TACKS
  • Working as a hybrid bartender and server taking orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring all special requests and dietary restrictions are accommodated with care.
  • Responsible for preparing all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage orders for the bar area guests and service team in accordance with recipe standards.
  • Maintain daily knowledge of food and beverage offerings, including menu changes and sold-out items.
  • Ensure attractive, consistent presentation of all cocktails and non‑alcoholic beverages.
  • Keeping the bar area clean and organized and consistently washing glassware and barware as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness in and around the dining area, including bussing and wiping down tables.
  • Delivering a warm and welcoming experience to every guest, providing attentive and exceptional service throughout their visit.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of our menu items, including our curated cocktails, and confidently making recommendations to enhance the guest experience.
  • Work as a banquet/catering bartender private events, promotional/consumer events, and meetings as instructed by F&B Manager and Banquet Captain.
  • Adherence to all food safety and health practices.
  • Adherence to all Washington State Liquor Laws, including the practice of valid ID checks.
  • Proactively addressing any guest concerns or feedback, going above and beyond to exceed expectations and resolve issues swiftly.
  • Other duties as assigned by management
THE NITTY GRITTY
  • Previous experience in a high-volume restaurant or hospitality environment preferred.
  • The ability to read, write and speak English fluently is required to read, analyze, and interpret regulations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine passion for hospitality, tourist attractions, and guest service excellence.
  • Strong guest service skills with the ability to be solutions oriented.
  • The ability to perform essential functions and a computerized point of sale system.
  • Ability to stand up and down for more than three (3) hours at a time.
  • The ability to de‑scalate, be organized, and handle busy operations.
  • Must maintain dependable work attendance and flexibility with assigned work schedules including any required overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift (25+) Pounds.
  • Basic math skills required.
