Job summary

Alfred University is seeking an equestrian aide to support daily horse care activities in the university's Equestrian center. The role includes feeding, turning horses, and maintaining stalls and facilities while performing light custodial duties.

• Be available for some weekend shifts as needed.

Job description

The position includes assisting in the daily care of horses, including but not limited to, feeding the horses, turning the horses in and out, maintenance in and around the equestrian facility and light custodial duties as needed. The position will include the ability to operate heavy equipment, tractors, and other equipment.

Must be a self-starter and able to work independently. The ability to maintain regular and prompt attendance is essential for the successful performance of this position. The position may require long and irregular hours. Sufficient fitness and strength to work in a physically active setting that may be a high dust environment is required along with the agility and strength to handle ill, injured, or unruly horses.

Rate:

$16.00-$16.08, 40 hours per week

Essential Funtions

• Feed horses inside the Equestrian center and outside in pastures


• Turn horses in and out in all types of weather conditions


• Stall maintenance, including cleaning 6-8 stalls per day


• Equestrian facility maintenance


• Light custodial duties


• Stall cleaners are expected to work some weekend shifts throughout the year

Other Duties & Responsibilites

• Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment


• Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols


• Participates in all required assigned trainings


• Effective oral communication skills

• Contributes to the overall success of the University by performing other duties as assigned

Environment

• Personal protective equipment must be worn when required. A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required


• Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present


• The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather

• Large farm machinery experience preferred
