Job summary

Goddess and the Baker in Wilmette, IL is seeking an experienced barista to join our front-of-house team. You will prepare and serve coffee and tea, maintain product standards, train new baristas, and support weekly ordering, inventory, and store projects.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in specialty coffee, strong communication, and leadership skills, with a calm, professional demeanor and a commitment to hospitality. This hourly role includes tips.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in specialty coffee and the coffee industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Flexible schedule.
  • Able to teach latte art.
  • Able to keep a calm, mature, professional demeanor when needed.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented, and demonstrates a desire to learn.
  • Be a model barista in bar skills, customer service and enthusiasm with the ability to lead, communicate and train team members.
  • Must be able to adapt to new procedures with ease, and confidently inform staff of changes.
  • Valid Food Handlers Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of all menus: bar, food, bakery
  • Is able to work all FOH stations
  • Maintains the highest quality, consistent product standards
  • Cultivates a professional, friendly and efficient work environment
  • Greets all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develops a rapport with our guests by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items
  • Ensures that the company’s brand is properly reflected by keeping a well-maintained, clean, organized and stocked coffee bar
  • Prepares and serves coffee and tea beverages that adhere to our company’s quality standards. You must ensure that all baristas are consistently reflecting the company’s recipes and presentation standards
  • Makes sure barista’s aprons and uniforms are clean and presentable
  • Continuously keep baristas informed of any events, changes, areas that need improvement, and areas of excellence
  • Manages and assists in the training and development of new barista hires
  • Keeps all FOH staff informed of drink LTO drink specials, and any pertinent bar-related changes
  • Makes sure store baristas are prepared for LTO drink special releases
  • Maintains coffee knowledge on current offerings. Confidently and accurately communicates product info to customers
  • Make sure smallware inventory is completed and communicates shortage to GM
  • Places beverage orders with vendors every week
  • Keeps track of sales and inventory pars, and adjusts accordingly
  • Ensures all projects and responsibilities are completed in a timely, efficient manner
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating procedures, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs
  • Maintains inventory of nitrogen gas tanks
  • Improves bar quality by studying, evaluating and redesigning processes. Implements relevant changes with help of Coffee Director
  • Offers suggestions for improving, and maintaining the appearance of the store and coffee bar
  • Ensures adherence to all health and safety requirements
