Job summary

BIGGBY COFFEE VIRGINIA BEACH is seeking an energetic Barista Shift Leader to guide daily café operations, inspire your team to deliver outstanding service, and uphold food safety and beverage quality. You will supervise shifts, ensure speedy service, train new team members, manage opening/closing tasks, and maintain a clean, welcoming store atmosphere.

This role requires morning and evening training availability over approximately two weeks and offers growth opportunities in a fast-paced coffee

Qualifications

• Proven barista experience with beverage prep knowledge.

We are seeking an energetic and motivated Barista Shift Leader to join our dynamic team! In this pivotal role, you will lead daily café operations, inspire your team to deliver exceptional customer service, and ensure the highest standards of food safety and beverage quality. Your leadership will help create a welcoming environment where guests feel valued and satisfied. *This will require morning and evening availability for training purposes (approx. 2 weeks)*

Responsibilities:

• Ensure that PERC is practiced by every staff member every moment of the shift and that Position Priorities are adhered to.
• Monitor speed of service and the sales process, ensure that drink-making procedures are being followed, and that all customers are being engaged in active conversation at the delivery counter.
• Maintain a clean and energetic store atmosphere—customers will feel comfortable in a clean environment, and if staff energy is high, and the baristas are having fun, the customers will too—this will guarantee that each customer will leave the store in a better mood.
• Ensure that all product is fully stocked and available.
• Ensure that the weekly and monthly maintenance chores are completed each day.
• Supervise the operation of the store in the Manager’s absence.
• Make sure staff members are present and ready to work at the time they are scheduled.
• Ensure that the 3 Hour Checklist is performed on time
• Ensure that all opening/closing chores are performed properly, that the store is fully operational five minutes before the posted opening time, and that it remains fully operational until five minutes after close.
• Perform managerial duties when needed, including filling out the ABC Tracker throughout the day, receiving and storing orders, reconciling the cash drawers, issuing employee reprimands, and any other tasks delegated by the Manager.
• Supervise and support baristas during shifts, ensuring efficient workflow and excellent customer interactions
• Prepare a variety of beverages with precision, including coffee, tea, smoothies, and specialty drinks
• Oversee food handling and preparation to meet food safety standards and maintain cleanliness throughout the café
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace by adhering to cleaning schedules and sanitation protocols
• Assist with training new team members on beverage preparation, POS operation, food safety, and customer service best practices

Qulifications:

• Proven experience as a barista with strong knowledge of coffee preparation and beverage service techniques
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a food service or café environment
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle retail sales transactions confidently
• Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks during busy shifts
• Knowledge of food safety standards, food handling procedures, and proper sanitation practices
• Basic math skills for cash handling, retail math calculations, and transaction reconciliation
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
• Must be upbeat and enthusiastic, with a willingness to lead. Must complete the New Barista training program.
