Job summary

Marina del Rey Hotel seeks a Barista to join its Food & Beverage team, delivering warm, attentive service while preparing espresso drinks, coffee, tea, and breakfast items. You will cross-train for restaurant service and maintain a clean, inviting coffee bar environment.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year in hospitality/F&B, strong guest services, and experience with espresso equipment. This on-site role offers opportunities to engage guests and collaborate across shifts.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of related hospitality or F&B experience.
  • Barista experience with espresso equipment, coffee preparation, and recipes.
  • Restaurant or hotel restaurant serving experience required
  • Strong guest service and communication skills.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests with friendly, personalized service and a positive attitude.
  • Take orders, answer questions, and make beverage recommendations.
  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso, tea, and other beverages per recipes and standards.
  • Prepare, stock, and serve small breakfast items.
  • Cross-train and support restaurant service as needed.
  • Keep coffee bar, tables, counters, and service areas clean and inviting.
  • Process cash and credit transactions accurately and close out shifts.

Located directly on the waterfront in Marina del Rey, Marina del Rey Hotel offers a relaxed coastal escape with beautiful harbor views and easy access to Venice Beach and the surrounding Westside. The boutique hotel features 164 guest rooms and suites, many with private balconies or patios, along with a pool, waterfront dining at SALT Restaurant & Bar, Del Rey Lounge, and MOJO Café. With more than 10,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor event space, including a waterfront lawn, Marina del Rey Hotel is a popular setting for weddings, meetings, and social gatherings.

THE ROLE

As a Barista, you'll be part of the hotel’s Food & Beverage team, creating a welcoming start to guests’ mornings through great coffee, thoughtful service, and attention to detail. You’ll prepare coffee and espresso beverages, serve breakfast items, and get to know our guests while also supporting restaurant service as a cross‑trained team member. You will:

  • Welcome guests with friendly, personalized service and a positive attitude
  • Take orders, answer questions, and make thoughtful beverage and menu recommendations
  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso, tea, and other beverages according to recipes and service standards
  • Prepare, stock, and serve small breakfast items
  • Cross‑trained and support restaurant service as needed
  • Keep the coffee bar, tables, counters, and service areas clean and inviting
  • Clean and maintain espresso machines, brewing equipment, and other coffee bar tools
  • Maintain well‑stocked coffee, tea, beverage, and breakfast stations throughout the shift
  • Process cash and credit transactions accurately and follow house procedures
  • Close checks and complete required end‑of‑shift reports
  • Assist the Food & Beverage Manager with stocking and preparing items for the next shift
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation requirements
  • Complete required brand and coffee training
  • Communicate effectively with guests and fellow team members
  • Support other departments and team members to help the hotel operate at its best

The coffee bar is clean, organized, and well stocked, beverages and breakfast items are prepared consistently, and you're a dependable team member who can confidently jump between barista and restaurant service when needed.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • 1+ year of related hospitality or food & beverage experience preferred
  • Previous barista experience with espresso equipment, coffee preparation, and recipes required
  • Previous restaurant or hotel restaurant serving experience required
  • Strong guest service and communication skills
  • Comfortable making recommendations and creating a welcoming guest experience
  • Ability to operate a cash register and accurately handle cash and credit transactions
  • Basic math skills and ability to follow recipes and established procedures
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize in a busy environment
  • Dependable, positive, and comfortable working as part of a team
  • English-speaking or bilingual
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, reach, lift, and carry
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. without assistance
  • Comfortable working around commercial kitchen equipment and cleaning agents
