Job summary

Cooper Consolidated, operating along the lower Mississippi River, is seeking a deckhand to support barge and bulk cargo operations. You will join a safety‑driven team, perform daily inspections, assist in unloading, and coordinate with dispatch.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: 1 year in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
• Basic math and effective communication are essential.

Responsibilities

• Fully participate in the Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
• Comply with OSHA, safety and environmental regulations; wear PPE as required.
• Document logs timely and submit to dispatch by the agreed date.
• Deliver supplies to fleet boats and keep access to the boats clear.
• Conduct weekly inspections of anchor chains and dead man blocks.
• Inspect spar/block barges for issues and pump out water if needed.
• Inspect new barges for leaks or damage on arrival.
• Repair or replace marker buoys, lines, cables and ties as needed.
• Apply safety lines to barge ties where required.
• Coordinate with other fleets to assist with rigging movements.
• Inventory rigging items and keep records organized for dispatch.
• Assist in general housekeeping and other duties as assigned.
