Steamplant Restaurant and Events seeks a Banquet Captain to oversee event operations and ensure flawless execution. You will liaise between banquet service and kitchen teams, answer inquiries, and help optimize seating diagrams for various events.

You are expected to enforce health standards and delegate tasks to staff. Ideal candidates should demonstrate a strong knowledge of food service, excellent communication, and the stamina to manage busy banquet floors.

Position Description

Assist with managing all aspects of event operations. Hold banquet staff accountable to ensure the high-quality execution of all events; he or she also serves as a liaison between the banquet service staff and the kitchen staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Banquet Captain

• Assist the sales team by answering phone calls/emails and reply to guest’s inquiries.
• Ability to make recommendations and sell.
• Review seating diagrams for acceptability and accuracy before all events-- weddings, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, corporate meetings, buffets, plated dinners, cocktail socials etc..
• Enforces all employer rule and food service regulations.
• Coordinates quality of food service between cooking staff and floor staff.
• Delegates duties to team members for each event.
• Resolves guests’ concerns, inquiries, and complaints.
• Maintains detailed reports for management and develops an accurate bill for service.
• Enforces an atmosphere of culture and refinement.
• Manages transfers and stock inventory.
• Manages food materials, inventory, and all operating materials.
• Inspects the uniforms of all floor staff prior to event to ensure propriety.
• Adheres to and enforces standards for hygiene and grooming.
• Adheres to all health and safety regulations.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the banquet floor, the kitchen, and storage areas.
• Works as a bartender or server, when necessary.
• Familiarity with and/or willingness to learn POS system.
• Knowledge of all food and beverage menu items.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrates friendliness, courtesy, and respect, especially when serving others.
• Has the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in print.
• Possesses an extensive knowledge of food preparation and service.
• Has the stamina to handle heavy objects, prolonged periods of standing, and other moderately strenuous activity.

Salary: starting at $18 per hour
