Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

A sophisticated New York restructuring practice is seeking a mid-level associate to work on complex bankruptcy, restructuring, and distressed situations involving companies, creditors, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders. The role offers exposure to both contested bankruptcy matters and transactional restructuring work, giving associates the opportunity to understand distressed situations from multiple angles. You will work directly with senior attorneys and clients, take meaningful responsibility for matters, and develop experience across Chapter 11 proceedings, workouts, distressed transactions, and creditors' rights. Compensation ranges from $225,000-$365,000, depending on experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Represent creditors, debtors, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy and restructuring matters
  • Handle substantive aspects of Chapter 11 proceedings, contested matters, workouts, and distressed situations
  • Draft motions, objections, pleadings, restructuring documents, settlement agreements, and other bankruptcy-related filings
  • Analyze credit agreements, capital structures, collateral packages, claims, and restructuring alternatives
  • Participate in negotiations, hearings, discovery, and strategic discussions with clients and opposing parties
  • Take increasing ownership of matters while coordinating with corporate, finance, litigation, and other attorneys when needed
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the New York Bar
  • 3–6 years of bankruptcy, restructuring, creditors' rights, or closely related experience at a law firm
  • Experience with Chapter 11 proceedings or complex restructuring matters
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with bankruptcy litigation, distressed transactions, workouts, or secured-credit matters is a plus
  • Ability to manage sophisticated matters and communicate effectively with clients, senior attorneys, and other stakeholders
WHAT WE OFFER

A platform for restructuring attorneys who want broad exposure rather than being confined to one narrow piece of large bankruptcy matters. The role combines $225,000-$365,000 in annual compensation with hybrid flexibility, sophisticated distressed work, direct client exposure, and meaningful responsibility across both contentious and transactional matters. It is an opportunity to develop the technical range and commercial judgment that make experienced restructuring lawyers particularly valuable.
