Job description

Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department, and monitor all established quality assurance standards. Responsibilities

• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
• Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
• Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size to prevent shrink.
• Recommend bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
• Use all bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and ovens according to company guidelines.
• Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
• Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients and merchandise.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate actions.
• Properly use kitchen equipment including stoves, computerized scales, and freezers.
• Keep cases full and fresh based on bakery standards.
• Contribute to ideas and development of sales in the cake and pastry area.
• Answer customer or associate questions via phone or in person, providing information and assistance for cake decorating orders.
• Communicate with the Bakery Manager regarding needs for the cake area.
• Track inventory related to cakes and pastries, including product needs, supplies, kits, rings, and special orders.
• Ensure the cake kit book is updated and kits are in stock.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand the store layout and locate products upon customer request.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
• Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions, noting discrepancies.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained, and temperature logs are kept.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying management.
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting repairs needed.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activities such as robbery, theft, or fraud.
• Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
