Job summary

Smith's Food and Drug seeks an energetic bakery team member to support customer service goals and maintain a clean, safe environment. You will assist the department manager in achieving sales targets, prepare bakery items to order, and help customers find and enjoy products with expert recommendations.

The role requires effective communication, basic math, and a current food handlers permit. Bakery and retail experience are preferred, with a proactive, customer-first attitude guiding every shift.

Qualifications

• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Effective communication skills for customer interactions and teamwork.
• Knowledge of basic math for transactions and recipe measurements.
• Current food handlers permit required upon employment.
• Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an environment where customers feel welcome and valued by answering questions about products.
• Gain knowledge of products and respond to questions with recommendations.
• Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
• Inform customers of bakery specials and ensure quality, freshness, and correct portion sizes.
• Suggest bakery items to help customers get what they want and need.
• Use bakery equipment (refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens) per guidelines.
• Prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients accurately.
• Check product quality and review sell-by dates to prevent shrink.
• Operate kitchen equipment and monitor temperatures following logs.
• Record any safety risks and report issues to management.
• Maintain inventory and proper stocking of bakery merchandise.
• Comply with safety programs and report unsafe conditions.
