Job summary

Hy-Vee Inc is seeking a Bakery Department Manager to lead a busy bakery team, set department standards, and ensure excellent customer experiences. You will supervise staff, assist customers, and manage daily operations including ordering, pricing, and promotions.

You will drive quality, training, and compliance while maintaining strong relationships with customers and store leadership. Strong communication and leadership are essential for success in this fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One or more years of related bakery or retail management experience preferred.
• Completion of sanitation courses or on-the-job training in food safety is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set and uphold department standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations, and profitability.
• Lead by example to greet and engage customers and foster a welcoming atmosphere.
• Assist customers with finding products and handling heavy items to ensure a great visit.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff; manage performance and discipline as needed.
• Coordinate scheduling and daily work plans with store leadership.
• Oversee ordering, replenishment, pricing, invoicing, and bookkeeping for the department.
• Analyze weekly/monthly sales trends and plan promotions and displays.
• Maintain proper product temperatures, storage, and freshness to minimize shrink.
• Troubleshoot bakery equipment and coordinate maintenance as needed.
• Conduct department inventory and manage pre-orders.
