Job summary

Hy-Vee Bakery seeks a Bakery Assistant Department Manager to oversee daily production, lead the bakery team, and ensure fresh, high-quality products are available for customers. You will partner with the Department Manager to manage schedules, train staff, and maintain department standards.

You will ensure outstanding customer service, manage task assignments, and help control inventory and promotions while supporting a safe, clean, and efficient bakery.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years bakery or related experience preferred.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer warmly and resolving concerns promptly.
• Check orders for the day, set up a timeline and production schedule, and assign tasks to bakers and staff.
• Review daily production list, organize flow, and create a second schedule for additional product needs.
• Review product for freshness, rotate display case, and replenish throughout the day.
• Train new employees and support ongoing bakery team development.
• Assume management responsibilities in the absence of the Department Manager.
