Job summary

Kroger Family of Companies in Sugar Land, TX seeks a Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) to prepare items per customer requests using bakery equipment, offer samples, and inform customers about specials while maintaining safety and quality.

You will handle inventory, label and stock merchandise, verify temperatures and logs, follow recipes, and deliver friendly service that makes customers feel welcome and valued.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
• Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products in correct portion sizes to prevent shrink.
• Recommend deli or bakery items to meet customer needs.
• Use bakery equipment according to company guidelines (refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens).
• Prepare foods according to temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
• Measure, prepare and mix ingredients using kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
• Check product quality and review sell-by dates.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely (stove, scale, fryer, steamer, etc.).
• Report ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand store layout to locate products for customers.
• Stay current with ads and promotions.
• Gain knowledge of products and respond to customer questions.
• Maintain inventory/stocking condition awareness.
• Ensure proper temperatures and logs are maintained.
• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an inviting environment for customers, answering questions about products.
• Adhere to food safety regulations and safety procedures.
• Practice preventive maintenance and notify management of repairs.
