Bakery/Deli Clerk (Finance)

Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department and monitor all established quality assurance standards. Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Customer Service skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Ability to obtain current food handlers permit once employed

Desired Previous Job Experience:

  • Bakery or Deli experience is helpful
  • Retail experience

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
  2. Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  3. Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
  4. Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size to prevent shrinkage.
  5. Recommend deli or bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  6. Use all equipment in bakery such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines.
  7. Prepare foods according to the food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
  8. Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes, using kitchen utensils and equipment.
  9. Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients.
  10. Check product quality to ensure freshness, review 'sell by' dates, and take appropriate action.
  11. Properly use kitchen equipment such as stoves, scales, fryers, steamers, and robots.
  12. Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  13. Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  14. Understand the store's layout and locate products when requested.
  15. Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  16. Maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to questions and make suggestions.
  17. Maintain inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
  18. Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and logs are kept.
  19. Promote trust and respect among associates.
  20. Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome and appreciated.
  21. Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  22. Reinforce safety programs and notify management of unsafe conditions.
  23. Practice preventive maintenance and notify management of equipment needing repair.
  24. Report customer or employee accidents.
  25. Work cooperatively in high-paced and stressful environments.
  26. Manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively.
  27. Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  28. Follow directions and seek assistance when needed to resolve issues.
  29. Support and assist minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  30. Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
