Overview
Job Summary
Scales, mixes, and bakes various bakery goods. Maintains proper inventory levels of products and ensures the cleanliness and appearance of the bakery department meet standards. Consistently provides friendly, courteous service to internal and external customers. Performs other related work.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers. Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer.
- Produces bakery products for retail stores.
- Operates and cleans equipment and work area. Maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary bakery area and equipment.
- Packages all fresh products following all packaging and handling procedures.
- Ensures quality of goods by following code.
- Mixes icing or other toppings by scaling and measuring ingredients, operating a mixer, reading the recipe, and occasionally lifting 50 lbs. bags of sugar, shortening, and flour.
- Dumps icing or other toppings into large storage containers.
- Sets up cakes by taking liners off, putting icing between layers of numerous items (e.g., 50 cakes at a time).
- Ices cakes by applying icing, bordering, placing decorations, etc., for numerous items (e.g., 50 cakes at a time).
- Packages cakes by placing them in boxes.
- Labels bakery items by inputting data into DiGi machine for scanning and placing labels on containers.
- Displays products on shelves appealingly and uses FIFO for rotation.
- Takes orders by phone and in person, including special orders, using tools like an airbrush machine, tubes, tips, etc.
- Personalizes cakes by writing customer-specified words.
- Faces merchandise.
- Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness, emphasizing fast, friendly service.
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques in person, over the phone, and via in-store intercom.
- Displays goods following packaging and handling procedures, maintaining stock, cleanliness, and appeal.
- Assists customers with inquiries regarding orders, pricing, ingredients, and availability.
- Ensures quality and legal compliance of bakery products through proper dating, labeling, and packaging.
- Maintains stock levels by informing managers and accurately filling inventory and production sheets.
- Produces breads/rolls by mixing recipes, setting up racks and pans, operating machines, lifting products, measuring ingredients, and baking.
- Cleans work areas using pressure hoses, brushes, squeegees, and wiping all surfaces.
- Produces croissants by folding by hand, proofing, and baking.
- Opens and closes bakery according to company procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Requirements
Ability to:
- Provide friendly, courteous customer service consistently.
- Work varied hours, primarily between 3:00 am and 10:00 pm, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Pushing and pulling approximately 100 lbs. of product on racks.
- Lift objects up to 50 lbs., including mixing ingredients.
- Conduct visual inspections, follow recipes, log production data, and read labels.
- Handle bakery ingredients and perform basic math calculations.
- Maintain composure and safety, respond to timers, and work around heat-emitting equipment.
- Follow sanitation procedures, wear PPE, and communicate effectively with team and customers.
- Operate kitchen utensils and equipment with speed and accuracy.
- Must be 18 years or older.

- Food Handlers Certification (per State Laws)
Machines and Equipment Operated:
- Ovens, proof box, mixers, bread sheeter, flour dump bins, pressure hoses, dishwashers, rack washers, pallet jacks, microwave, dividers, donut filler, airbrush, date gun, scan gun, DIGI printer, label machine, inkjet printer.
