Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Bakery Cake Designer to join our Bakery team in North Carolina. You will use your decorating skills to create birthday, wedding, and everyday cakes, while delivering friendly service to customers and ensuring orders are accurate and on time.

This role also serves as a lead for part‑time staff, collaborates with the bakery team to keep production moving, and requires night and weekend availability to support store needs. A strong eye for detail and customer focus are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Six months or less of related experience; training provided.
• Decorating skills and knowledge of cake design trends.
• Ability to lead part-time staff.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers, taking orders at the bakery counter, and assisting with their needs throughout the store.
• Check orders for the day, set up a timeline and production schedule, and verify cake details (size, deco pack, icing, dates).
• Decorate bakery items and stay current on designs and trends.
• Develop daily bakery orders for bakers including cakes and sizes.
• Track daily production and coordinate tasks with co-workers.
• Deliver product and set up wedding cakes on site outside the store.
• Communicate with Bakery Manager daily about displays, ads, and needs.
• Lead part-time staff and provide coaching.
