Job summary

Giant Eagle, Inc. is seeking an Apprentice Baker to join our Bakery Department. You will learn all aspects of the bakery, from Clerk functions to Cake Decorator functions, while delivering friendly guest service. This entry-level role emphasizes teamwork, creativity with food, and a passion for making celebrations special.

You will gain hands-on experience in baking, operations, and customer interaction, with a focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

0–6 months experience in bakery or related industry.
Prior bakery experience is preferred.
Must be at least 18 years old.
No high school diploma required.
Ability to follow scratch recipes and procedures.

Responsibilities

Perform bench work according to scratch procedures.
Prepare and form products to scratch recipes.
Bake products at specified time and temperature.
Place products into proof box and adjust settings for size/shape.
Prepare and fry donuts per established procedures.
Rotate products from freezer to maintain freshness.
Demonstrate suggestive selling and provide sampling when appropriate.
Maintain safety as the top priority for team members, guests, and products.
Provide exemplary customer service and assist guests in locating products.
Maintain cleanliness of equipment, tables, and department area.
Record special orders for bakery products accurately.
Understand ingredients and purposes of items used in scratch baked goods.
Assist in unloading deliveries and maintaining bakery backroom, cooler, and freezer efficiency.
