Job summary

Health IT NEWS.Direct! seeks a Bag Jammer / Manual Encoder to support Burbank International Airport baggage handling. You will clear jams, encode bags manually when needed, and coordinate with control room staff to maintain smooth operations.

The role requires physical stamina, safety awareness, and ability to work shifts, weekends, and overtime in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment near moving equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior airport/warehouse/industrial conveyor experience preferred.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and safe work practices around automated equipment.
• Able to learn and follow written and verbal instructions and complete reports.
• Able to stand, walk, climb and work in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Shift work, weekends, holidays and overtime may be required.
• Valid U.S. driver's license and airport badge eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Monitor BHS areas for jams and system interruptions and clear safely and efficiently.
• Operate manual encoding stations when automated systems fail.
• Communicate status with control room and operations staff.
• Follow safety procedures including LOTO and PPE when near moving equipment.
• Inspect conveyors and scanners for debris and issues during jam-clearing.
• Record incidents, jam counts, and manual encoding data as required.
• Assist technicians and control room staff to identify recurring issues.
• Maintain awareness of system zones, emergency stops and safe clearances.
• Keep work areas clean, organized and debris-free.
• Uphold standards for professionalism, safety and operational excellence.
