Job summary

ADM in the United States is seeking a Research Scientist to advance bacteriophage biology and sequencing-based characterization. The role designs wet-lab experiments, runs MinION and Illumina workflows, and assembles and annotates genomes to generate high-quality analyses.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate findings into practical applications, prepare reports, and mentor junior scientists in techniques and data analysis. A PhD is required.

Qualifications

• PhD required in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Biochemistry, or related field.
• Hands-on experience with MinION and Illumina sequencing workflows.
• Proven genome assembly and annotation expertise using bioinformatic tools.
• Experience developing Python/R based pipelines for QC, genomics, and functional characterization.
• Industry or applied research experience in R&D/Quality is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health & Safety compliance and update SOPs.
• Manage daily lab operations, inventory, and waste disposal.
• Design, execute, and analyze bacteriophage experiments.
• Coordinate sequencing workflows (MinION and Illumina).
• Assemble and annotate viral and bacterial genomes; perform QC.
• Conduct bioinformatics analyses for taxonomy, function, and AMR/virulence.
• Develop and validate new wet-lab and computational protocols.
• Maintain and operate laboratory equipment with precision.
• Document procedures and prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
• Drive innovation and propose new methods and analyses.
• Train and mentor interns and junior scientists.
