Job summary

State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) seeks an experienced Transportation Maintainer 4 (Backhoe Operator) for Vernon, CT. The role involves safely operating a backhoe and other heavy equipment, performing routine maintenance and safety checks, and supporting district maintenance tasks in a team environment.

The position requires CDL Class A or B with tank endorsement, MEC, and willingness to respond to winter emergencies.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, maintenance and repair of roadways, roadsides, bridges or airports, or work involving operation and care of mechanical equipment.
• One (1) year of general experience must have been in the operation of complex equipment or skilled tasks.
• Graduation from a vocational or technical school may substitute for two years of general experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate backhoe and other heavy equipment safely in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment within the district.
• May supervise crew in various maintenance and construction tasks.
• Perform skilled duties in multiple trades as required.
