Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a Backflow Inspector to join our team in Reno, NV. You will perform building backflow inspections, test devices, record results, and generate comprehensive reports. You will support the Lead Inspector and Inspection Manager with data collection and required paperwork.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years in the fire and life safety field, a valid AWWA-NV certification, and familiarity with NFPA standards. Strong data skills and reliable transportation are essential.

Qualifications

• College degree preferred; however, a HS diploma or equivalent with experience is acceptable.
• Must possess and maintain AWWA-NV Water Use Efficiency Practitioner certification upon hire.
• 1–3 years of experience in the fire and life safety industry as a Backflow Inspector.
• Study and learn NFPA standards for inspection and testing of fire protection systems; obtain NICET certifications.
• Proficiency with test equipment including sensitivity testers, multimeters, battery analyzers, sound level meters, and Palm devices.
• Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel; Palm unit operating systems; reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Perform backflow inspections and test devices; record results and generate reports.
• Assist Lead Inspector/Inspection Manager with data collection and paperwork (Backflow Reports, Quick Reports, Certificates).
• Ensure inspections are completed timely and accurately.
• Download inspection data and generate Backflow Inspection Reports.
• Attend monthly team meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

This position is responsible for performing building backflow inspections including testing devices, recording and generating results, and providing reports. Duties include assisting both the Lead Inspector and/or Inspection Manager in collecting data and generating any necessary paperwork (Backflow Inspection Reports, Quick Reports, and Inspection Certificates).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensure that all inspections are completed on a timely basis and that inspections are done accurately and thoroughly.
• Testing of all building backflow control panels, devices, and functions of the system and entering the test results into the Palm handheld device.
• Upon completion of an inspection download the information and generate a completed Backflow Inspection Report.
• Participate in monthly team meetings.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Education/Qualifications

• College Degree is preferred; however, a High School diploma or equivalent is acceptable with acceptable experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid AWWA- NV Water Use Efficiency Practitioner certification upon hire.
• 1 - 3 years of experience in the fire and life safety industry as a Backflow Inspector.
• Study and learn NFPA standards for the inspection and testing of fire protection systems. Stay current with code requirements, and industry changes, and obtain NICET certifications.
• Proficiency in using test equipment including sensitivity test equipment, multi-meters, battery analyzers, sound level meters, and communicating devices.
• Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and use of Palm unit operating systems.
• Reliable transportation to and from the office or job site

Other Duties

• Performs other duties assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
