Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Chattanooga, TN seeks an Inspector responsible for conducting fire alarm inspections, device testing, documenting results, and generating reports. The role supports the Lead Inspector and Inspection Manager with data collection and required documentation, including Fire Alarm Inspection Reports and Certificates, and performs routine service tasks.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience with commercial fire alarm system inspections, service and maintenance.
• Proficiency with test equipment including sensitivity testers, multimeters, battery analyzers, sound level meters, and communicating devices.
• Strong PC skills: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel; Palm unit operating systems.
• Must be punctual and able to perform sound tests prior to building tenant arrivals.
• Able to be on the phone and computer consistently throughout the day.

Responsibilities

Responsible for conducting fire alarm inspections, including device testing, documentation of results, and report generation. Supports the Lead Inspector and/or Inspection Manager with data collection and required inspection documentation, including Fire Alarm Inspection Reports, Quick Reports, and Inspection Certificates. Also performs routine service and maintenance tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensure that all inspections are completed on a timely basis and that inspections are done accurately and thoroughly.
• Testing of all building Fire alarm control panels, devices, and functions of the fire alarm system and entering the test results into the Palm handheld device.
• Perform maintenance and service of fire alarm systems independently.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues and implement corrective actions.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Education/Qualification:

• High School diploma or equivalent is acceptable with acceptable experience.
• Requires at least 2 years of hands-on experience with commercial fire alarm system inspections, service, and maintenance.
• Proficiency in using test equipment including sensitivity test equipment, multi-meters, battery analyzers, sound level meters, and communicating devices.
• Need good networking PC skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and use of Palm unit operating systems.
• Must be punctual. Being on time is critical due to the need to perform sound tests prior to building tenant arrivals.
• Ability to be on the phone and computer consistently throughout the day.

Physical Requirements

• Industrial, Commercial, & Residential building environment with moderate to high noise levels, and comfort with working at heights.
• Mostly a physically demanding role. Most of the daily demand is standing and walking stairs and climbing ladders.
• May need to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
