Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is hiring a Fire Alarm Inspector to conduct inspections, test systems, and document results. The role supports data collection and prepares Fire Alarm Inspection Reports and Certificates on a daily basis.

Candidates should have hands-on experience with commercial fire alarm systems, proficient testing equipment, and strong computer skills. This is a full‑time on-site position with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience with commercial fire alarm inspections, service, and maintenance.
• Proficient with test equipment and reading wiring diagrams and manuals.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Palm OS familiarity.
• Punctual and able to perform tests before tenant arrivals.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Complete fire alarm inspections, document results, and generate reports.
• Test panels and devices and log results on Palm handheld.
• Perform routine service and maintenance tasks independently.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues and implement fixes.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision.

Responsible for conducting fire alarm inspections, including device testing, documentation of results, and report generation. Supports the Lead Inspector and/or Inspection Manager with data collection and required inspection documentation, including Fire Alarm Inspection Reports, Quick Reports, and Inspection Certificates. Also performs routine service and maintenance tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensure that all inspections are completed on a timely basis and that inspections are done accurately and thoroughly.
• Testing of all building Fire alarm control panels, devices, and functions of the fire alarm system and entering the test results into the Palm handheld device.
• Perform maintenance and service of fire alarm systems independently.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues and implement corrective actions.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Education/Qualification:

• High School diploma or equivalent is acceptable with acceptable experience.
• Requires at least 2 years of hands-on experience with commercial fire alarm system inspections, service, and maintenance.
• Proficiency in using test equipment including sensitivity test equipment, multi-meters, battery analyzers, sound level meters, and communicating devices.
• Need good networking PC skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and use of Palm unit operating systems.
• Must be punctual. Being on time is critical due to the need to perform sound tests prior to building tenant arrivals.
• Ability to be on the phone and computer consistently throughout the day.

Physical Requirements

• Industrial, Commercial, & Residential building environment with moderate to high noise levels, and comfort with working at heights.
• Mostly a physically demanding role. Most of the daily demand is standing and walking stairs and climbing ladders.
• May need to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
