Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a field inspector to ensure timely and accurate fire alarm inspections. You will test panels, devices, and functions, recording results in Palm handheld devices and generating final Fire Alarm Inspection Reports.

Collaboration in monthly team meetings and readiness to perform other duties is required. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, a customer-service mindset, and is willing to work in a team.

Qualifications

• College degree preferred; HS diploma acceptable with experience.
• Learn NFPA standards for inspection and testing of fire protection systems.
• Must show excellent written and oral communication and be customer service oriented.
• Must work well in a team environment.
• Fire alarm experience preferred but not required.
• Proficient with test equipment and networking PC skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure inspections are completed timely and accurately.
• Test fire alarm control panels, devices, and functions; enter results in Palm handheld.
• Download inspection data and generate Fire Alarm Inspection Reports.
• Participate in monthly team meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensure that all inspections are completed on a timely basis and that inspections are done accurately and thoroughly.
• Testing of all building Fire alarm control panels, devices, and functions of the fire alarm system and entering the test results into the Palm handheld device.
• Upon completion of an inspection download the information and generate a completed Fire Alarm Inspection Report.
• Participate in monthly team meetings.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Education/Qualification:

• College Degree is preferred; however, a High School diploma or equivalent is acceptable with acceptable experience.
• Study and learn NFPA standards for the inspection and testing of fire protection systems. Stay current with code requirements, and industry changes, and obtain NICET certifications
• Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and be customer service oriented.
• Must be able and willing to work within a team environment.
• Fire Alarm experience is preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in using test equipment including sensitivity test equipment, multi-meters, battery analyzers, sound level meters, and communicating devices.
• Need good networking PC skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and use of Palm unit operating systems.
• Must be punctual. Being on time is critical due to the need to perform sound tests prior to building tenant arrivals.
• Ability to be on the phone and computer consistently throughout the day.

Other Duties:

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Industrial, Commercial, & Residential building environment with moderate to high noise levels, and comfort with working at heights.
• Mostly a physically demanding role. Most of the daily demand is standing and walking stairs and climbing ladders.
• May need to lift objects up to 50 pounds.

Pay Rate:

• Pay Rate: $20 to $30 hourly based on experience.
