Job summary

Yahoo is seeking a backend-focused software engineer to join the AntiSpam and Delivery teams in Reston, VA. You will help build and operate distributed systems that detect spam and ensure billions of messages are delivered reliably daily, using AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities include translating technical requirements into clean, testable code, deploying to production, and reviewing peers' work.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or related field with fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, OS, networking.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools and judgement on correctness, security and maintainability.
• 3+ years of backend software development experience in Java, Go, or C++ (Java preferred).
• Solid understanding of cloud concepts: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.
• Experience with public cloud (GCP or AWS) and containers (Docker) with orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Unix/Linux server applications development and strong debugging skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate distributed systems for inbound protection, entity reputation, traffic shaping, and message delivery.
• Translate requirements into correct, readable, testable code and deploy to production.
• Review peers' code and provide constructive feedback, and help with estimation.
• Troubleshoot failures and tune performance across high-throughput services.
• Review and simplify existing components with minimal guidance.
