Yahoo Holdings Inc. in Mountain View seeks a Backend Software Dev Engineer II for Yahoo Mail, AntiSpam. You will build and operate distributed systems, apply AI-assisted development tools, and deliver high‑throughput services on Unix/Linux platforms with petabyte-scale data.

This role invites independent design, code reviews, and collaboration with product managers and engineers to modernize infrastructure, while enjoying flexible hybrid work arrangements.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or related field with fundamentals in data structures and networking.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and strong judgment on correctness and security.
• 3+ years of backend development in Java, Go, or C++ (Java predominant).
• Solid understanding of cloud computing: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.
• Machine learning knowledge with hands-on AI coding.
• Experience with public cloud (GCP or AWS).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes on GCP preferred.
• Experience designing high-performing server applications on Unix/Linux.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging with performance tuning.
• Clear communicator, constructive under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate distributed systems for inbound protection and message delivery.
• Translate requirements into readable, testable code and deploy to production.
• Review peers' code and provide constructive feedback.
• Troubleshoot failures and optimize performance of high-throughput services.
• Design and simplify components with minimal guidance.
• Collaborate across teams and assist with estimation.
