Job summary

EatClub is seeking a Backend Engineer to build scalable services in Java on serverless AWS. You’ll design APIs, ship features end-to-end with product and frontend teammates, and own components from idea to production in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You’ll work on REST and GraphQL APIs, tune SQL/NoSQL databases, and write automated tests while improving performance and reliability. If you love hospitality tech and enjoy shipping clean, well-tested code that scales with growing demand,

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of commercial experience as a Java developer.
• Strong Java backend skills and a solid grounding in software development principles.
• Experience building serverless APIs.
• Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, etc.).
• Performance tuning and debugging experience.
• Habit of writing automated tests and testable code.
• Familiarity with modern architectures and design patterns.
• Comfort working with Git.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Full working rights in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Designing and building scalable backend services in Java.
• Developing and maintaining serverless APIs, and building and consuming REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Taking features from idea to production, working alongside product and frontend teammates.
• Improving the performance, reliability and scalability of our systems.
• Debugging and resolving technical issues, and fixing the root cause, not just the symptom.
• Writing automated tests and keeping our code easy to test and change.
• Reviewing code and sharing what you know with the team.
