Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a backend-focused engineer to own critical money-movement features in a stablecoin-enabled platform. You will design and operate backend systems and APIs that power payments, deposits, and withdrawals across the Coinbase ecosystem.

You will collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Compliance to balance speed, security, and regulatory needs while driving performance and scale in distributed systems.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software engineering experience building and operating backend systems, ideally in fintech, payments, or crypto.
• Proficiency in backend languages (Go, Java) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP), with hands-on experience designing distributed systems and APIs.
• DRI for technical projects, driving end-to-end delivery from system design through production deployment.
• Experience integrating with or building on blockchain or crypto technologies such as stablecoins, on-chain payments, or smart contract platforms (Ethereum, Solana, Base).
• Ability to write technical design documents and communicate architecture trade-offs to product and engineering stakeholders.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own key projects end-to-end as the Directly Responsible Individual, driving stablecoin-based money movement features from system design through production deployment with high accountability.
• Build backend systems, infrastructure, and internal/external APIs that enable businesses and partners to embed stablecoin-powered payments into their products.
• Partner with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Compliance to translate requirements into robust, scalable solutions that balance speed, security, and regulatory needs.
• Execute performance, scalability, and reliability improvements across distributed systems, identifying bottlenecks and driving fixes before they impact customers.
• Support the team's engineering quality through code reviews, architectural best practices, and contributing to patterns that raise the technical bar.
