Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a backend engineer to design and deploy high‑reliability systems powering stablecoin payments. You will own features end-to-end, build scalable APIs, and collaborate across product, design, infrastructure, and compliance to ensure secure, compliant delivery.

The role emphasizes distributed systems thinking, performance tuning, and a strong emphasis on responsible use of AI to improve workflows while maintaining human oversight.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software engineering experience building and operating backend systems.
• Proficiency in backend languages (e.g., Go, Java).
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and designing distributed systems and APIs.
• Track record as a DRI driving end-to-end delivery from design to production.

Responsibilities

• Own key projects end-to-end as the Directly Responsible Individual, from system design through production deployment.
• Build backend systems, infrastructure, and internal/external APIs enabling stablecoin-based payments.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Compliance to balance speed, security, and regulatory needs.
• Improve performance, scalability, and reliability across distributed systems.
• Contribute to engineering quality through code reviews and best practices.
