Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend for the Foundations, Settlements and Transfers team in the Institutional group. You will own backend systems moving funds across fiat, crypto, and internal ledgers for institutional clients. You will mentor engineers and drive scalable infrastructure.

You will partner with product and engineering managers to translate product vision into technical roadmaps and deliverables, focusing on reliability and performance at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Go (or similar backend language) experience.
• Proficiency with relational data stores (Postgres or equivalent).
• Experience with message-based architectures (Kafka or equivalent).
• Ability to own system design decisions and drive proposals.
• Mentoring engineers and promoting high code quality.
• Experience using AI to improve workflows with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, build, and scaling of backend services for settlements and transfers.
• Drive code quality through rigorous reviews and lifecycle participation.
• Lead performance and scalability improvements for financial infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to map quarterly roadmaps.
• Propose architectural improvements to accelerate velocity and reduce tech debt.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to raise the team's capability.
