Job summary

Abnormal AI is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Message Mailflow team that powers ingestion of billions of emails daily. This backend-focused role emphasizes distributed systems, reliability, and operational excellence in a fast-moving 0-to-1 build environment.

The ideal candidate has strong backend experience with email infrastructure and will own tier 0 services such as Subscription Manager, Notification Producer, and Remediation.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Information Systems or related field.
• 3+ years of backend software development and distributed systems experience.
• Experience with Go and/or Python.
• Experience working in distributed teams with asynchronous and written communication.
• Experience building features from scratch and operating them.
• Able to follow established guidelines and contribute to growth and impact.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute software projects critical to Abnormal's core product with a team through conception, design, implementation, launch, and operation.
• Own and improve stability, performance, and scalability of tier 0 backend services processing billions of emails daily.
• Collaborate with Detection, Products, and Infrastructure teams to meet broader organizational needs.
• Participate in on-call rotations to maintain reliability and uptime of mission-critical systems.
• Drive continuous improvement to enhance system efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
• Contribute to engineering excellence and knowledge sharing within the team.
