Job summary

Essex Management is seeking a Software Engineer (Backend) to join the team focused on enterprise informatics software for cancer clinical trials and research. This role blends hands-on coding with system design across AWS/GCP ecosystems, emphasizing scalable services and robust testing.

You will work in a mostly remote setup within the US, with occasional on-site collaboration at the Rockville HQ for kickoff events and town halls.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills (oral and written).
• Proficiency in Python, Java, Ruby, or comparable languages.
• Experience building enterprise software in AWS or GCP environments with services like ECS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, or BigQuery.
• Experience developing microservices with RESTful APIs and/or gRPC.
• Experience with ORM libraries such as SQLAlchemy.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Git/GitHub Actions, and container orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Manage task priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Develop scalable, enterprise software systems and services.
• Write well-tested code with unit/integration/BDD tests.
• Contribute to architecture diagrams, API docs, and SOPs.
• Participate in SCRUM ceremonies in an Agile environment.
• Collaborate in a cross-functional team to move features through CI/CD pipelines.
• Mentor junior team members and shadow senior engineers during interviews.
